Aim 1. a purpose or intention; a desired outcome.
At AYM, our desired outcome for every dog parent is to foster the development of a happy, confident, and social canine companion. This objective is aimed at enabling both the parent and dog to lead their most fulfilling lives in harmonious partnership.
In a world filled with choices, finding a business that is the right fit for you and your puppy can be a daunting task. Here's what makes AYM Puppy Training unique.
Private Lessons
Within class training classes, a typical setting consists of 8 to 10+ puppies/adult dogs along with their respective owners, all under the guidance of a single instructor. However, it becomes evident that a sole instructor faces inherent limitations when attempting to provide each individual dog and owner with enough attention necessary for optimal progress. What if you have additional questions? What if there are behaviours you have concerns about aside from basic obedience? What can you be doing in between classes for maximum results? With AYM, all those questions are answered.
Private lessons are designed to establish a strong training foundation with distractions and challenges gradually introduced. The success of you and your dog and the enjoyment derived from the training process is a very important part of this journey. The deliberate, step-by-step elevation of training complexity serves to minimize frustration and enhances the precision with which areas requiring reinforcement can be identified and addressed.
It is imperative to recognize that every dog possesses a unique set of genetic traits, varying degrees of prior exposure, and diverse lifestyles. These individual factors have a huge impact on how and what each dog needs to learn. Tailoring a structured training program to accommodate the distinct needs of each dog and their respective owner is crucial to success.
Our private, in-home lessons at AYM offer an exclusive opportunity for personalized, one-on-one interaction, catering not only to your dog but also to you as the pet owner. One of our objectives is to empower you to excel as a responsible and knowledgeable dog owner. These lessons are thoughtfully designed to accommodate your unique schedule, ensuring that all parties involved, including co-parents, can actively participate. This individualized approach allows us to closely oversee your dog's development, allowing for timely adjustments in the training process as needed to optimize progress.
Emphasis in socialization and desensitization
Puppies that exude confidence, embracing the world as joyful explorers, are the happiest canine companions. Dogs lacking in confidence may manifest as shy or fearful, potentially missing out on the delightful experiences that should be part of their journey.
Throughout your puppy's growth and development, they will go through critical stages, each of which demands recognition to facilitate a deeper understanding of your puppy's unique needs. Acknowledging these stages is pivotal in aiding your puppy's progress through comprehensive training and socialization.
At AYM, our commitment is to equip both you and your puppy with the essential skills and resources necessary to ensure successful and joyous outings, in everything from bustling parks, the veterinarian's office, grooming salons, or hiking trails. Dog owners want to give their puppies a happy life, we're here to help with that.
Veterinary Technician background
Our background and extensive training as Veterinary Technicians have provided us with a solid foundational understanding of animal behaviour. Additionally, our practical experience has showed the importance of comprehensive puppy and dog training. Few experiences are as heart-wrenching as witnessing a dog entering a veterinary clinic exhibiting heightened levels of fear and stress, when all we want to do is help them.
It is our unwavering belief that the veterinary clinic, and even the grooming salon, should not serve as sources of anxiety for our beloved pets. Regrettably, there exists a prevailing misconception that "all dogs hate visits to the veterinarian." However, this is far from accurate. The unfortunate truth lies in the fact that a significant number of puppies are not introduced to veterinary clinics and their staff in a manner conducive to their comfort and well-being. Consequently, many adult dog owners resign themselves to the belief that fear and stress around veterinary visits is normal, and their dog just has to live through that stress.
Our mission is to help your dog understand that activities such as nail trims, the use of a blow dryer, ear cleanings, tooth brushing, and sitting still during physical examinations can all be transformed into enjoyable and fulfilling experiences.
Clicker Training
Clicker training constitutes a widely adopted marker technique in canine training, serving as a pivotal communication method rooted in classical conditioning. In this context, your dog recognizes the distinctive click sound as being the precursor to the presentation of a reward (treat, toy, etc.)
Clicker training provides you the distinct advantage of providing immediate reinforcement of the desired behaviour as soon as it occurs, thus expediting the learning process with pinpoint accuracy. In addition, this method empowers trainers to reinforce behaviours even from a considerable distance.
It is worth noting that while the clicker stands as a valuable training tool, it won't be needed throughout the entirety of your puppies life.
Did you know that dogs learn 45% faster when new behaviours are initially trained with a clicker versus a verbal marker (the word "yes" for example).
